It’s extraordinary to me that the United States can find $700 billion to save Wall Street and the entire G8 can’t find $25 billion dollars to saved 25,000 children who die every day from preventable diseases.
– Bono, from yesterday’s Sojourners weekly email, via The American Prospect.
To be fair, as the BBC reports (with a video of Bono which doesn’t explain his part in this), world leaders have just found $3 billion to save more than a million lives a year by fighting malaria. Not the whole of what Bono wants, but more than 10% of it in terms of both funding and lives saved, pledged in just one day.

Thanks, Peter,I suppose it’s something, but it still pales in comparison. Not that we shouldn’t solve the banking/stock markets problem, or our economy will collapse, but it shows how money can be found when there’s a will. There hasn’t been a great deal of will on issues of world poverty.
