Author and preacher Selwyn Hughes died on Monday. His is a sad loss to the Christian community. When I left my last appointment I was given his autobiography as a leaving present by two dear friends. For a man who has achieved as much as him, it could have been an autohagiography (I’ll invent that word if it doesn’t exist). But it is far from that. It is one of the most humble autobiographies I have ever read. Full of sel-examination and frank admission where mistakes were made or pride got in the way, the tone of his writing says as much as the content.
Rest in peace, Selwyn: while you know of many lives you touched, there are thousands and millions you haven’t a clue you affected.

Papa Selwyn Hughes has in no small measure affected my judgements as a christian counsellor.
i respect his understanding and i can boldly say that the heavens have taken from us someone that we think we still love, need and cherish.
my uncle S. I. Ocheja will not receive this news funny at all as he would always ask for the latest edition of Every Day with Jesus from me and other sources.
adieu papa Selwyn. i will love to have a Jesus Hug with you in heaven.
i love heaven, it is a place you would have the opportunity to meet with loved mentors you weren’t able to meet in your life time.

I have just finished reading My Story by Selwyn Hughs, and it is one of the best Christon books i have read so honest and humble dedication who full of love for the Lord also humility, i could’nt put it down being a christian myself i could idetify with his every word. i was so sorry to here of his death, he will be a hard man to follow. the news of pastor selwyn hughes’ death is really very sad. however one takes solace in the fact that he has gone to be with Lord. pastor selwyn hughes has affected many lives than one can imagine. people have been saved, lives rebuilt and heart mended through his writings. i have no doubt that he will be hugged in heaven by many unknown to him here on earth. i look forward to doing that myself.

I’ll be yet another to hug him. He changed my life when I heard him speak at the University of Sydney in 1998 and now I tell others about his teachings. Selwyn told me that he had spent his whole life trying to understand why people behave the way they do and he wrote about his findings in Christ Empowered Living.
I never heard, nor possibly ever will hear live a more honest, trustworthy teacher. He was not tempted by fame, money or sexual matters and was humble to the end. He is living proof that the Christian life works.
I’m sad that it took over a year for me to hear the sad news, but life must go on and God will raise new teachers to carry the torch.
Does anyone know what church he attended and where he is buried?
