The same passage can speak to different situations, and preachers, in subtly different ways. Yes, indeed, Colin; this reminds me of the famous words from the Puritan John Robinson: 'Thou hast yet more light and truth to break forth from thy holy Word.'

And for a different emphasis on this, I too am preaching this coming Sunday. Using the above Revelation passage and the Gospel for the day - The raising of Lazarus. The second year running I have drawn All Saints Sunday. So we will consider the Christian hope (of all the Saints, living and also departed especially if you go with Tom Wright's stacne). Then in the Gospel the hope becomes personal and breaks into the present. I'll say no more now in case any of my congregation follow this blog.

But isn't this one of the wonders of Scripture. The same passage can speak to different situations, and preachers, in subtly different ways. I will have to preach from Rev 21 again.

Yes, I can see how each affects the other. I guess I was thinking about, which one is eternal, and which isn't....... I guess I just get tired of hearing so much "save the earth", and hardly any "save the people"! (Not meaning to oversimplify...)

All these things are important in my estimation, Owen. Maybe some people take 'green' steps because they are easy and don't involve contact with people, as you say - I hadn't thought of that. However, I'm not sure we can separate too strictly damage to creation from damage to the image of God (the human race) in creation. I would have thought that each affects the other.

Excellent study, Dave..

More and more, He's teaching me that hope is not necessarily "what I hope will happen" to smooth out the bumps in our life - it's the fact that all these bumps are temporary. How hard it is sometimes to see that! And even more, that God has never left His throne, and the day will come when all is renewed.

I have never really hopped on the "green" wagon, and I think it's mainly because I think there is far too much time, energy, and money spent on it when there are still far too many homeless, starving, widows.........sometimes I wonder if many people find it easier to focus on "going green" instead of doing the harder thing - reaching out to PEOPLE.......I mean, I know mankind has done damage to the earth, but I also think far, far more damage has been done to God's most valuable creation , the ones He commands us the most to take care of.

(.....now stepping down off my soap box...)
